A Study on the contents related to sexual education in the textbook of middle and high school


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the contents related to sexual education in the textbook of middle and high school.
The subject for this study were 142 books, 32,074 pages, that is, physical education, home economics and biology of high school, and physical education, home economics and science of middle school as courses of study related to sexual education.
The data was collected from Oct. 1 to Oct. 20, 1988 and analyzed by percentage. The findings of this study are as follows.
1. The distribution of the contents related to sexual education according to a course of study.
In high school, home economics 87 pages (35%), physical education 60.5 pages (25.3%) and biology 35.25 pages (14.2%) of total 248.75 pages as 0.8% of 142 books, 31,074 pages. This rate means 73.5% of total contents related to sexual education.
In middle, school home economics 48.5 pages (19.5%), physical education 17.5 pages (7.3%) and biology
0 page (0.0%) of total 248.75 pages.. This rate occupies 26.5% of total contents related to sexual education. 2. The distribution of the contents related to sexual education is integrated by 13 kinds.
In conclusion, the contents appeared being preponderent in high school, all much the same, repetitive and sporadic in each courses of study.
Finally, furthermore study about establishment of a new course of study dealing with scientific and intensive sexual education and appropriate and integrated contents being applied according to the developmental stages is needed.
